Engels

Engels is a culinary centre in the Groothandelsgebouw. An excellent venue for breakfast, lunch or dinner, whether business or personal, Engels also offers nearly 40 rooms of varying sizes for hosting conferences, fashion shows, presentations, seminars and exhibitions.

The Groothandelsgebouw was constructed in 1955 by architects H.A. Maaskant and and W. van Tijen. At the time, this was the largest and most modern building in Europe (220x85x43m). Since its opening, Café Engels (grand café, restaurant and rooms) has been housed in the Groothandelsgebouw. The Engels family has been a household word in Rotterdam for more than 100 years. Between 2002 and 2005, the Groothandelsgebouw has been renovated by J. van Stigt architects.
