Since the end of 2009, photographer Ruud Sies follows the building of De Rotterdam, the impressive high-rise that is being realized momentarily at the foot of the Wilhelminapier. De Rotterdam is one of the most prestigious as well as the largest building in the Netherlands, designed by OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) of Rem Koolhaas. Named by Koolhaas as A vertical city because of its shape and the many functions that the building will host in the future.
From September 15th 2012 to January 6th 2013, The Netherlands Museum of Photography will present the first large retrospective in the Netherlands of the
renowned American photographer Lewis Hine. ‘Photography for a Change’ including the photo’s covering the construction of the Empire State Building (1932). In this exhibition also a special selection from the documentary Building the Rotterdam A Work in Progress by Ruud Sies will be included.
