The World Museum
The World Museum in Rotterdam showcases cross-cultural encounters, inspiring and surprising visitors with contemporary and historical cultures from both far and near. One of Europe's finest, the collection demonstrates how non-Western cultures have become an integral part of our society.
The World Museum was built in 1851 and designed by A.N. Godefroy. His excellent ethnographic collection makes it a unique place to acquire information and experience cross-cultural encounters. The World Museum has a free permanent exhibition featuring 1,800 top items from its own collection, focusing on the theme of Spirituality. The museum also organises two variable exhibitions on appealing themes every year. Major renovations started on 1 August 2007 and the museum reopened on November 2009.
