Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam
The Natural History Museum of Rotterdam is in Villa Dijkzigt, a national monument dating back to 1852. Housing over 25,000 objects ranging from dried plants to mammoth fossils, the museum has one of the biggest natural history collections in the Netherlands.
The Natural History Museum in Rotterdam was founded in 1927. After moving a number of time, the museum was reopened in 1990 in Villa Dijkzigt, a national monument dating back to 1852. This imposing building in the museum park was the former home of the Van Hoboken shipping dynasty. The glass pavilion was added to the building in 1995, followed by renovations in 1996. The Natural History Museum focuses on nature without losing sight of the rest of the world or its geological past.
