De Unie
De Unie is a forum for debate, culture and the arts, with a pleasant café and restaurant. De Unie is where new ideas and initiatives emerge, networks are forged and new encounters take place between creative talents and audiences.
De Unie was originally built on Coolsingel. This café is a 1986 reproduction by architect Carel Weeber. The original building on Coolsingel was destroyed in May 1940 during the Second World War. The café has many features of De Stijl, such as the asymmetrical composition of rectangular shapes painted in primary colours. The windows are positioned symmetrically in the walls.
