Day 1

12.42

Start your day at the Rotterdam Tourist Information on the Coolsingel. Don’t miss the Rotterdam Discovery: the place to begin your visit to Rotterdam with a journey through the past, present and future.

12.56

The Schielandshuis is the only seventeenth century building in the centre of Rotterdam. Spoil yourself with a delicious lunch at the Brasserie Schielandshuis.

13.39

Walk to Plein 1940, the square where sculpture The Destroyed City can be found. For many Rotterdam locals this monument designed by Zadkine in 1953 is the symbol of the destruction of the city centre and the unstoppable urge to rebuild.

13.50

To find out what’s happening in the young contemporary art scene, walk to TENT on the Witte de Withstraat. Because the Witte de Withstraat joins the Museumpark and the Maritime Museum, it’s often called the art-axis of Rotterdam.

14.43

Head towards the Museumpark and stop off at the Christian Ouwens gallery on the Eendrachtsweg. This gallery organises special world-class exhibitions in the areas of contemporary art and Dutch Design.

15.25

Enjoy contemporary design, modern art and old masters at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen. From the Pavilion, a good place for a healthy lunch, you have a great view of the lovely museum gardens.

17.34

Good weather? Wander through the Museumpark where the Depot Boijmans van Beuningen is being built.

18.04

Walk back along the Witte de Withstraat and eat dinner at café-restaurant Rodin on the Schilderstraat.

19.46

Reserve tickets for a show at Theatre TR Schouwburg or go to a concert at the Doelen.

22.04

Catch the metro from Beurs metro station to Wilhelminapier metro station. From there it’s just a five-minute walk to Suite-Hotel Pincoffs.

Day 2

9.28

Breakfast at Suite-hotel Pincoffs

10.32

Walk to the Wilhelminapier. Visit the exhibitions at the Dutch Photo Museum located in the striking industrial building Las Palmas, once the Holland-America Line’s workshop building.

12.45

Have lunch at Hotel New York with its maritime and industrial atmosphere.

14.03

Only open on the weekend: the Dutch Pinball Museum on the Veerlaan in Katendrecht with more than 70 pinball machines. Besides the many sights to see at the museum, recall memories from your youth or make new ones!

15.12

Hop on the Watertaxi to Leuvehaven.

15.28

Cross the Blaak in the direction of the Koopgoot (shopping tunnel) and the Hoogstraat and head towards the Markthal.

15.44

Visit the shops and fresh food stalls at the Markthal and look up and admire the artwork ‘Horn of Plenty’ by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. On the escalators you’ll find the free exhibition De Tijdtrap.

16.30

Take a stroll past the library in the direction of the Nieuwemarkt and the Pannekoekstraat. You’ll find unique and original shops and can grab a drink at one of the many terraces.

18.20

Follow the Binnenrotte towards the Luchtsingel. This 390-metre-long, colourful pedestrian bridge, designed by architects ZUS, brings new life to a forgotten area. Cross the bridge to the Hofplein Station.

18.49

There are many good restaurants in the area of the Hofplein Station. The vegetarian Gare du Nord is slightly further away (in an old train carriage), jazz club Bird, fish restaurant Opporto, Restaurant De Jong and FG Restaurant from François Geurds. For the last two, you’ll need to book in advance.

21.12

It’s a long walk back to Suite-Hotel Pincoffs. You can also take the Heer Bokelweg tram 4 in the direction of Rotterdam Central Station and then change to tram 20, 23 or 25. Get off at Wilhelminaplein.

20.55

One last drink in Suite-Hotel Pincoffs’ hotel bar?
