The big crowd-pullers such as the IFFR, North Sea Jazz, Rotterdam Unlimited and the World Port Days are back again this year, but there are also many fantastic new festivals, restaurants, architecture and exhibitions that make Rotterdam worth visiting in 2019! A preview of the highlights.

Successful newcomers

Besides the abovementioned iconic festivals, this year has more newcomers such as dance festival A Day At The Park. Last year’s newcomers, hip hop festival Get Loose, showcase festival Left of the Dial and street art festival POW!WOW!, were very successful and are back again this year!

Extraordinary architecture

Rotterdam is never finished. This year will see the completion of the special Depot from Boijmans van Beuningen. The opening for the public is in 2020. Rotterdam is also building on unique places; the Floating Farm will be a farm on the water. Existing buildings are also being tackled, the Fenixloods I warehouse is being turned into the Fenixlofts.

Museum renovations

One of Rotterdam’s biggest museums, Boijmans van Beuningen, will close for renovations at the end of May… but not to worry, part of the collection will be exhibited at other museums in Rotterdam. The first Boijmans Next Door is Picasso on Paper at the Kunsthal Rotterdam. After a large-scale renovation, the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam opens in July with the children’s exhibition Reispaleis 3.0.

New hotspots
