Spring in Rotterdam

Spring in Rotterdam

Spring is the ideal season to visit Rotterdam. Admire the city’s architecture and parks in the spring sun and enjoy yourself on a terrace or at a festival.

Many days off

Not only the weather but also the many public holidays ensure that spring is the ideal time to come to Rotterdam for a day or longer. There are many festivals in the city on King’s Day, such as Kralingse Bos Festival and Oranjebitter, but there are also plenty of fun events on Easter, Pentecost and Ascension Day. The programme of Remembrance Day (4 May ) and Liberation Day (5 May) is more extensive than normal because the liberation of the Netherlands was 75 years ago. The shops in the centre are open on all of the public holidays and the terraces are open again too. If it looks like it’s going to rain, then pop into a beer café or cocktail bar.

Festivals

The outdoor festival season starts in the spring. Dance at Boothstock and the annual Toffler Festival or, if you want to take it easy, visit the Trek food festival or drink a glass of wine at the RYPP wine festival. Some of the Rotterdam Opera Day performances also take place outdoors. The most important festival this year in Rotterdam is inside: the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. From 8 to 16 May, it will be felt throughout the city and will be visible with club nights, concerts, exhibitions and sing-along parties all over the city and of course on the stage of the Eurovision Village at the Binnenrotte, which is free to enter.

Rotterdam Architecture Month

Rotterdam Architecture Month

In a city with such special buildings there is of course a Rotterdam Architecture Month (21 May -21 June), with a special weekend in which you can hit the roof: the Rotterdam Rooffop Days (4 to 7 June).

40th Marathon Rotterdam

Another big event in the spring is the Rotterdam Marathon. If you’re not taking part, come and watch and encourage the runners.
