Exhibition, Highlights, Top Exhibitions

Starting early 2018, the main street of Rotterdam –Coolsingel– will be transformed into a modern, green city lounge to relax, stroll and shop. This new chapter in the history of the Rotterdam boulevard has inspired Museum Rotterdam to make a grand exhibition. Because Coolsingel is the perfect stage for the story of Rotterdam and its inhabitants.
The history of the city is reflected in the development of this street: from a moat to protect the medieval town to the traffic artery of the modernist metropolis, to the future city lounge of an international city. All these developments of Coolsingel speak volumes about Rotterdam’s self-image and changing ambitions as a city.

The Coolsingel exhibition leads visitors along an historical timeline, through a cinematic experience and touches on several themes using our historical collection. The story of Coolsingel comes truly alive with Rotterdammers who have worked, strolled, celebrated, protested, shopped and mourned here. They play a main role in this exhibition and share their experiences of Coolsingel as a boulevard of emotions.

The exhibition Coolsingel will be a feast for the eyes, a sentimental journey and a moving celebration of our city, whether you are Rotterdammer or not!
