Cat Love - Nine lives in the art

The exhibition ‘Cat Love. Nine lives in art’ is a family exhibition focusing on man's attraction to cats. For ages, our favourite hairy muse with its thick coat of fur, long whiskers and rebellious behaviour has been a source of inspiration for artists.
Approximately sixty artworks will show how cats have been depicted through the years. From conventional masterpieces by Edward Penfield and Henriëtte Ronner-Knip, to work by modern artists such as Karel Appel, Pablo Picasso and Wallasse Ting. In nine cabinets, cats will be looked at from different angles. From the seductive cats that captivated French artistic circles in 19th-century Paris and were symbolic for the city’s vibrant nightlife, to cats living the good life while purring and sleeping through each of their nine lives, or the rebellious cats we know from the numerous slapstick-like film clips that are massively liked on the internet today. Part of the exhibition is an extensive programme of activities for young and old with (interactive) assignments that give visitors an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a cat.
The exhibition was realized in collaboration with the traveling Cat Museum in Brussels and the Cat Cabinet in Amsterdam.
