Rotterdam Photo is an annual photo fair with a real festival flair. The event celebrates the diversity and broad spectrum of contemporary photography. As part of the Rotterdam Art Week, Rotterdam Photo attracts around 10,000 visitors every year, including art lovers, collectors, gallerists and international journalists from different parts of the world.
Every year the fair offers independent photographers the opportunity to exhibit their projects. Photographers can participate individually or on behalf of their gallery by submitting their works and projects through an open call related to a current theme. The aim of the photo fair is to offer photographers an affordable exhibition space at a lower cost compared to traditional art and photo fairs.
The festival, inspired by Rotterdam's history as a port city, offers the selected photographers an exhibition space in reused shipping containers, as well as the public space of the city of Rotterdam in order to take photography beyond the 'white cube' tradition.
