For the first time since his appointment as the next chief conductor Lahav Shani conducts the Rotterdam Philharmonic orchestra. For this summer concert he has chosen three pieces on the boundary of classical and light music. Bernstein shifts between mambo and cha-cha, fragments of melancholic cabaret songs can be heard in the Weill, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue – with Lahav Shani conducting from the piano – is pure symphonic jazz.
Concert- and congress centre De Doelen is a world-acclaimed concert hall in the Mauritskwartier district in Rotterdam where around 600 concerts are given each year. In addition to classic concerts by orchestras including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert calendar also features world music and jazz.
