Artist Fritz Haeg has provided information boards for a 19-kilometre route along the bike path on Maasvlakte 2. Each information board describes a particular animal and the often complex relationship with the industrial environment of the port. Like the large earwig who lives in the sand, the natterjack toad living in artificial lakes made especially for him, the little tern nesting in the grass and the grey seals on the protected beach. The map for this art route is available for free from the counter at FutureLand.

Along the way, visit the ‘Zandwacht’. This artwork portrays the formation of sand dunes, by the combination of sand blown up by strong winds and the descending weather. It was developed by the Rotterdam Artists Collective Observatorium and marks the completion of the construction of the Maasvlakte 2.
