Vibrant city of culture
Rotterdam is home to an imposing port and striking architecture, but it also has a rich film history. Iconic movie theatres from the 1920s, such as Abraham Tuschinski’s Grand Theatre, brought the magic of cinema to the city. Despite being destroyed in World War II, Rotterdam was rebuilt with determination. One of the things the city is known for is the world-famous International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The thriving film culture has continued in modern cinemas such as LantarenVenster, Cinerama, Kino and the Pathé Cinemas, as well as in theatres such as Theatre Rotterdam Schouwburg, de Doelen and the Old and New Luxor Theatres.
