More architecture

Van Nelle Fabriek

As the most prominent industrial monument in the Netherlands, the former Van Nelle Factory was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2014. Designed by Brinkman & Van der Vlugt, the factory is a classic example of the Nieuwe Bouwen school of Dutch modernist architecture, built between 1927 and 1930. The ingenious building was designed to provide all the facilities for the employees close at hand, keeping the building fully above-ground to create air, light and space.

Erasmusbrug

The 800-metre long Erasmus Bridge spans the Maas River and links the northern and southern parts of Rotterdam. The suspension bridge has a 139-metre high steel pylon, which is secured with 40 cables. The shape of the pylon gave the bridge its nickname, The Swan. The Erasmus Bridge is the icon of Rotterdam. Designed by Ben van Berkel (1996)

Het Ding van Naum Gabo

The three-dimensional construction has flanked De Bijenkorf department store since 1957. It’s an ‘ideological contribution to Constructivism’. The integration between the sculpture and the architecture is striking.
