Hoek van Holland (Rotterdam Beach)

Beach, Hoek van Holland, Outdoor location

There is nothing more cooling in the summer than water. And there is plenty of that in Rotterdam! From the Nieuwe Maas that flows right through the city to the pleasant inner-city harbors. And do you long for a dip in the sea? You can be on the beach of Hoek van Holland in no time. Because this extensive beach is also part of Rotterdam.

Sea, beach, dunes, boulevard, harbor, polders and attractions: that’s how versatile Hoek van Holland is. In the summer it is a pleasant, pleasantly busy seaside resort. But Hoek van Holland is also attractive to visit in other seasons: with a nice cultural offer, a varied hinterland and the giant ships sailing past the world port of Rotterdam.

Beach with lots of space

Because of the vastness of the beach in Hoek van Holland you can easily find a spacious place and children have plenty of space to play. The beach is cleaned daily and the lifeguard keeps an eye on safety. It is not without reason that the Quality Coast and Nederland Schoon labels are displayed here.

The beach pavilions – from a comfortable cafeteria to a luxurious and trendy restaurant – are open twelve months a year and have patio heating. In the evening, the Maasvlakte, with its play of multicolored lights, forms a very special backdrop. The Beach Villas make it possible to spend the night on the Hoekse beach all year round.

Attractions

Suppose you want something different than going to the beach, you can choose from different attractions. Hoekse museums – small-scale and very accessible – are devoted to lighthouses, the history of Dutch pop music, rescue work at sea, the Atlantic Wall and Dutch military history.

Walking and cycling

Whether you want to view historical sites in the village or enjoy the nature around Hoek van Holland – there is a suitable route for every interest. Ask for it at the tourist office.

Behind the angular building De Zeetoren is an ancient dune from the 14th century. Here grows parnassia and orchid, you can hear the singing of the nightingale, robin and skylark. Foxes and natterjack toads live in the shelter of the undergrowth between the sloping dunes with grasses and mosses.
