Museumpark is located on the former estate of the van Hoboken family, who lived in the villa that now houses the Rotterdam Museum of Natural History. City architect Witteveen designed the park, and the landscaping began in 1927. On the south side of the pond, a monument was built for Gerrit de Jongh, the former director of the Rotterdam Public Works Department. There are several works of art in the park, which means that Museumpark can also be considered an open-air museum.
