The Slaak Rotterdam, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott International, is housed in the monumental building ‘Het Slaakhuys’, in the former pressroom of ‘Het Vrije Volk’ (translated as: The Free People). This design boutique hotel offers 74 luxurious and spacious rooms, Restaurant & Bar Didot34, two meeting rooms and fitness called Studio34.
‘Het Slaakhuys’, designed by Jo Vegter in 1952, was finished in 1954 and from that moment was home to newspaper ‘Het Vrije Volk’. ‘Het Slaakhuys’ is an icon in the Rotterdam Architecture and was officially listed as a national reconstruction monument in 2010.
The design of the 50’s brings contrast to the no-nonsense character of its history but does no harm to the beauty of the cubistic architecture of the building. The interior design characterizes itself as sleek and modern with variation in color, wallpaper with patterns and the use of natural materials such as marble, wood and brass.
All rooms offer Swiss Sense beds, a bathroom with walk-in rain shower, separate toilet and contemporary in-room technological features such as interactive 49’’ TV, mobile check-in and Mobile Key. Discover the spacious layout with comfortable sofa, lounge chair and dining table of The Slaak Loft. Additionally, for ultimate comfort enjoy the bath and balcony of The Slaak Executive or the characteristic suites with separate bedroom, The Slaak Suite.
Restaunt & Bar
Restaurant & Bar Didot34, named after the font of the newspaper ‘Het Vrije Volk’, takes away the borders of co-working, breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks with the ‘fourth meal’ concept: small international dishes you can order throughout the day. Didot34 is a vibrant destination with an energetic program that encourages the social scene and celebrates the 50’s during ‘Jazz34’ Nights, ‘On the Records’ Vinyl Sessions and the ‘Sunday Brunch’. Take your time to connect in the Upper Bar of Didot34, which is an ideal location for private gatherings, or have meetings at one the two pressrooms.
