On 22 January, the International Film Festival Rotterdam starts again. During this twelve-day festival, more than 100 films are shown throughout Rotterdam. Besides visiting the cinema, there are also plenty of other activities taking place! Below, you can read our best tips for things to do during the film festival.
The IFFR is one of the largest cultural events in the Netherlands and one of the largest public film festivals in the world. With the latest feature films, documentaries, short films, exhibitions, performances and talk shows, Rotterdam is an exciting global film capital until Sunday 2 February 2020.
There are special theme programmes at the festival again this year where art, (new) media and film come together. De Doelen, the heart of the festival, is a lovely place to meet for snacks and drinks and has live performances, debates and Q&A’s with filmmakers and actors. Every film evening ends with a fantastic party at the Theater Rotterdam Schouwburg.
You can also enjoy the official IFFR beer, the Kaapse Tijger. This beer was made by Kaapse Brouwers. A slightly crisp beer with malty, spicy notes that make it a refreshing addition to the range of speciality beers from this Rotterdam brewer. This beer is available at selected restaurants and supermarkets in and around Rotterdam! You can also sample the Kaapse Tijger at the 'mobile bar' which can be found at various festival locations. TIP! You can try this beer around the corner from De Doelenat Kaapse Maria!
Besides all the film screenings, you can also attend special events during the IFFR. View a number of featured events below. For more special events, visit the IFFR site.
