Weelde opens its doors with a weekend-long party
20 May 2019 by Steffan Hofland
The Merwe-Vierhavens area (M4H) is better known as the Rotterdam Makers District, a place for the innovative manufacturing industry. But the area is also becoming increasingly popular as a residential location and a cultural hotspot. The newest cultural asset is Weelde, a place where music, theatre, art, performance and food & drinks come together. Steffan Hofland talks about Weelde’s plans and the opening party.
We will officially open our doors on 24 May! We will do that in a big way, with three days full of music, theatre, performances, art and food and drinks. A flag will be planted on the site which consists of nearly two hectares of land. Weelde is the wealth of Rotterdam West! It will be a place for young and old, open from early to late, to party or relax.
My colleagues Kelly Vincent & Kim Pieters, known from De Geheime Tuin (The Secret Garden) and Club K, are the driving force behind Weelde. They were recently proclaimed ‘Taste Makers of Rotterdam’ by De Buik van Rotterdam, the fastest-growing independent food-related platform in the Netherlands. After having travelled through the city with De Geheime Tuin to uncover the hidden gems of the city for five years, they felt the need for a permanent location; a creative sanctuary where all dreams come true. Kelly and Kim found this place on the former site of city farm Uit je Eigen Stad.
Weelde will open on 24 May with a large opening party: De Weelde Nacht. Names such as Lövestad, Sandeep and Yør Kultura & Esteble will perform between 21:00 and 06:00. Pre-sale tickets for De Weelde Nacht are now available!
There is also plenty to do for the rest of the weekend. You can enjoy music, performances & art. Collaborations with parties such as the Voedseltuin, the Stadsboswachter, KlooiKlup, the Nederlands Fotomuseum & the Performance Bar will ensure that our visitors are never bored.
Weelde is a place where music, theatre, art, performance and food & drinks come together.
Weelde is open on Saturday from 10:00 to 02:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 23:00. After the opening weekend, Weelde will be open every week from Wednesday to Sunday.
How will you last all weekend? No problem, our lunchroom (run by De Zure Bom) and the restaurant will ensure that tasty food is available non-stop, all weekend long!
How to get there?
Weelde is located at Marconistraat 39, near metro station Marconiplein and tram stop Het Witte Dorp, and 10 minutes by bike from the city centre. There are plenty of places to park in the immediate vicinity of Weelde.
