Store opening hours

You can shop 7 days a week in Rotterdam. Only the hours differ per day, on Monday the shops open later and on Friday there is late-night shopping. Check the special opening hours before and during the holidays here.

 

Measures coronavirus

In response to the coronavirus the Dutch government has taken additional measures. Some stores have adjusted their opening hours and others are closed until April 6 at least. Therefore, keep a close eye on the social media and websites of different stores for current information.

City Centre

Most of the shops in the city centre open at 10:00 until 18:00, and at Friday until 21:00. The Markthal is open until 20:00 nearly every day and until 21:00 on Friday and 18:00 on Sunday. Department stores, like De Bijenkorf and Hema, are almost daily open until 19.00.

De Markthal

De Markthal

The Markthal has about 100 fresh food stands, nearly 15 food shops and various restaurants, with a supermarket and a four-level underground car park below. As you wander amongst the market stands, look up to enjoy the massive artwork sprawling across the ceiling: the ‘Horn of Plenty’ by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Thanks to this grand span of art, the Markthal has been referred to as the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel.

Alexandrium

The Alexandrium consists of 3 parts: the covered Shopping Centre, the Megastores outside and the Home Decoration Mall. The shopping centre is easy to reach by train, metro, bus and car.

Zuidplein is the biggest covered shopping mall in the Netherlands and is easy to reach by car, metro and bus. Buses from the entire region stop here.

Grocery shopping

Grocery shopping can also be done after regular business hours. Many supermarkets in Rotterdam are open until 20:00. The Jumbos on Hillelaan, Botersloot and the Schiedamseweg, are open seven days a week, until 22:00. The Albert Heijns on Schouwburgplein, Meent and the Oudedijk are open every evening until 22:00, with the exception of Sunday.

At night

There are almost 20 night shops to be found in Rotterdam. These are open after 22:00 for that forgotten bag of chips or bottle of liquor. Most of the night shops are open from 17:00 until 01:00 or 02:00. It is often possible to get the night shops to deliver groceries.
