Rotterdam Zoo is in the Blijdorp district to the north of the city: every corner of the world has its place in the zoo. You can find the African Savanna, with the infamous gorilla Bokito and his family, the glass tunnel through the Oceanium and the Asian Jungle Trek. Europe’s largest butterfly paradise, Amazonica, is also here. Thousands of South American butterflies enjoy deliciously perfumed flowers and share the tropical temperatures with anacondas and ravenous piranha fish.

The black rhinoceros is a new addition to Rotterdam Zoo. This star attraction can be seen here again for the first time in half a century.

A maximum of 8,000 visitors can visit Rotterdam Zoo at one time. Reductions for groups of 20 or more are available on request in advance. Guided tours and other arrangements can also be booked. Tours are taken on foot and guides allow visitors to take a look at places which are usually out of bounds. One package is Rotterdam Zoo by Night: visitors are treated to a guided tour round the shadowy zoo after closing time and then enjoy a buffet dinner.

Rotterdam Zoo is easy to get to both by car and public transport. It is just a 15-minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station. Motorists should take the ‘Blijdorp’ exit off the A20 motorway.
