Discover the city, each other and the night during Museumnacht010

34 Cultural hotspots in Rotterdam will open their doors on Saturday night, 4 March 2023. Expect a dazzling programme packed with exhibitions, performances, workshops, taste explosions and more from 20:00 to 01:00.

The Night of Fantastical Imagination at the Kunsthal

Get ready for a dose of tantalising imagination at the Kunsthal. You can see all the exhibitions until late into the night. Get carried away with the imaginative, powerful works of ‘In the Black Fantastic’. Or discover Patricia Piccinini’s hyper-realistic sculptures in the ‘Metamorphosis’ exhibition. The sculptures are fairy-like creatures representing a cross between humans and animals. During this night, artists and musicians from House of Knowledge transform the Kunsthal Auditorium into a musical playing field.

Art Shopping at TENT

Visit TENT for the exhibition ‘There is no party so noisy as the one you’re not invited’. The exhibition shows how mechanisms for distinguishing between wanted and unwanted sounds have shaped the city’s auditory culture since the 19th century. For doers, there is the workshop ‘Do Your Thing’ where you can create a sculpture using different materials with artist Chantal van Heeswijk. There will also be dancing at TENT in the Bluetooth Bar, an installation by artist Cengiz Mengüç. And the collective Artists in Solidarity hosts a market whose proceeds go to the affected areas in Turkey and Syria.

The Maritime Museum at High Speed

Step aboard a fictional metro at the Maritime Museum and rediscover Rotterdam with the themes of migration and 1930s New York. Meet graffiti artist Florian Baltus and collaborate on a large mural. Or test your knowledge at the Holland America Line Pub Quiz. And don’t miss the music and dancing in the spacious station hall of the Maritime Museum, including a Classic Street Dance workshop by Lindy Hop. All Aboard!

Visit the website museumnacht010.nl for the complete programme.

The best museums in Rotterdam

The fire has been burning even brighter in the cultural heart of the city since the arrival of Depot Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. This is where museums and institutions meet, bordering Museum Park. Discover the ‘treasures’ that used to be stored behind closed doors at the iconic Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. Directly opposite, you can visit Het Nieuwe Instituut, the museum for architecture, design and digital culture. The Kunsthal is worth a visit both for its building and its interesting, topical exhibitions.
