Covered market hall
You will find a covered market hall in more world cities, but due to the combination with homes, Rotterdam has a world first. The apartments are draped in a horseshoe shape over the fresh market. The hall houses the market with approximately 100 fresh food units, approximately 15 food shops and various restaurants, including a supermarket and four-level parking garage. If you walk between the market stalls and look up, you will see the work of art ‘Horn of plenty’ by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Because of this largest work of art in the Netherlands, the Markthal is also called the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel.
