What a fine piece of work was done 150 years ago; the construction of the New Waterway. Rotterdam owes a lot to this open connection with the sea. Without the Nieuwe Waterweg we would never have become the port city we are today. That is why we celebrate with visitors and the communities along the river what happened, realized and started. 24 and 25 September we will therefore transform the Eiland van Brienenoord into a festival site. There is plenty to do in different tents, in the open nature and on the water! Discover the island during one of the many (guided) walks, view art from the Waterworks project or swing – while enjoying a daily snack and drink – to live jazz music. On Sundays there is a special kids program.

Island of Brienenoord
The island
The most beautiful part of the island is located right under the Brienenoord Bridge: the tidal channel where the water flows in and out through sandbanks during ebb and flow. During a trip across the island you will encounter Scottish Highlanders. They are tame, you can just walk past them, but don't feed them.
You can visit the adventurous nature playground De Blije Bij with children. There are tree trunks, river sand, a climbing frame and a willow tunnel.
