Hofplein Rotterdam opened its doors in 1985 as a youth theatre school. Since then the theatre has evolved into a household name in Rotterdam and beyond, featuring a programme of educational projects and vocational courses besides performances.
The theatre company stages 10 to 12 productions per season. Each production – often a modern adaptation of classic literature or fairy tales – usually features one or more professional actors, but the lead parts always go to students of the theatre school. The largest hall can accommodate an audience of 500 people.
The Hofplein Rotterdam Theatre is located in Rotterdam Noord, at about a 10-minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station. There are several trams that stop nearby, including line 4 (Heer Bokelweg stop). Paid parking facilities are available in the immediate vicinity of the theatre and in the Katshoek car park.
