Temporary Ferris Wheel The View

16 March 2016 by Summer Tse

Have you ever wanted to see the downtown of Rotterdam from a higher point of view but don’t know where to go in order to see it?  Then don’t miss this opportunity to be 55 meters above the ground, which is equivalent to 16 stories of a building, by riding the temporary Ferris wheel in Binnenrotte!

Temporary Ferris wheel

Starting from 12th March to 10th April, Europe’s largest mobile Ferris wheel will be temporarily situated in Rotterdam, where you can enjoy the exquisite aerial view of Rotterdam for four rounds. There are in total 42 cabins for maximum six passengers, also including a VIP cabin that has comfortable leather chairs and a distinctive exterior design that differentiates it from the normal cabins. While you are up in the air, you will be able to see Rotterdam’s red bridge ‘Willemsbrug’, all the other tall buildings and the city center in a single opportunity.

The Ferris wheel ‘The View’ was built in 2008 and it is 55 meters tall, allowing it to be the largest transportable Ferris wheel in Europe. In addition, ‘The View’ has been in different cities and events before, including Antwerp, the Christmas market in Brussels, and the largest music festival in Belgium: ‘Tomorrowland’.

Location

The Ferris wheel is located near Markthal, an architectural icon of Rotterdam where you will be able to indulge snacks, diverse dishes and visit the stalls after a ride on the Ferris wheel, or you can also opt for shopping in the city center. If you go on Tuesdays and Saturdays, you will find the street market open from 8 AM until 5 PM. At the market, you will find fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, fabrics, vintage goods and more.

Some practical information

‘The View’ is open daily from 10 AM in the morning. Mondays to Wednesdays, the Ferris wheel is open from 10 AM till 9 PM, while on Thursdays you will be able to enjoy the view for an hour longer until 10 PM. During the weekends, the Ferris wheel is accessible until 11 PM, which allows you to be able to enjoy the night view a little bit longer. The price for the ride? It is free for children under 2 years old, and it costs 6 euros for adults while 4 euros for children (3 to 13-years-olds). For the VIP cabin, you are able to enjoy a ride for 60 euros while receiving a bottle of champagne.
