Janne Schra is a real artist at heart: her music revolves around following her feeling and the process from idea to elaboration, in which she enters into a small duel with herself every time. The form, ingredients or influences are subordinate to the end result, which must always feel ‘own’. On Friday 23 June she will perform in BIRD with a good dose of jazz and poetry.
When Janne graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts in directing, she was about to break through as the singer and songwriter of the band Room Eleven. From 2004 to 2010 they conquered hearts at home and abroad and toured from Amsterdam to Montreal and from Johannesburg to Tokyo. The success seemed unstoppable, but also raised expectations. Time to open a new chapter and that’s how Janne started her solo career. From 2013, Janne released albums under her own name and collaborated with producer Tobias Fröberg. Her album ponzo , which she released in 2015, received a 3voor12 and Edison nomination and was followed up in 2018 by ok , which she produced with her band. As a songwriter, Janne broke through the magical limit of 100 songs and toured the Dutch theaters with ‘Het beste van 75 jaar Janne Schra’.
The heart is Asymmetrical
Sometime in 2020, while the Edison-winning album In de Regen was being mixed, Janne Schra was looking for a studio to record vocals. She got talking to producer Adam Bar-Pereg and they spontaneously decided to write something together. The result is The heart is Asymmetrical , an album that is mainly about gut feelings and shaking off what no longer serves people or isn’t true love.
