Exhibitions, drawing workshops, presentations, performances – at Cross Comix you will find all aspects of modern comics. You will find dozens of makers selling special works of art and a kiosk with zines from all over Europe. Maybe not a festival like you are used to, but why not make an adventurous choice?
The theme of Cross Comix this year is ‘stories without words’. Animation legend Paul Driessen (over fifty years of experience and an Oscar nomination) will talk about his work. Other cracks in the field of textless graphic novels, such as Pieter de Poortere, Martha Verschaffel and Erik Kriek, will also be present.
Cross Comix is a festival where you can get started yourself: drawing models, making linocuts or learning how to put together a comic strip scenario yourself. But there are also special exhibitions, including a co-production with Poetry International and an experiment to use graphic novels to inform low-literate people.
Prefer to sit back a bit? Order a drink at the bar in Cinerama or WORM and grab a ready-made graphic novel – or of course one of those unique small edition booklets that you just bought from the creator himself.
Cross Comix cannot be captured in one word. You have to experience it once to be able to tell the story.
